Custom and Brands t's
It is a fact that some fashionable items of clothing will never go out of fashion but the vast majority of those all seem to fall into the one category. They all seem to be t-shirts! Every other style of clothing comes and goes in cycles, some dip out of the high street stores never to be seen again but t-shirts are different. The simplicity of their design and iconic status as a result of some of the slogans, logos and associations with key events in history as much as some of the designs has guaranteed their place in history. This is actually an understatement because some designs that were released ten, twenty or even thirty years ago are more popular now than they have ever been before. The vintage t-shirts are definitely back!
No matter what you may read that states to the contrary, vintage t-shirts are those that have a design of more than twenty years old. The t-shirt does not need to be that old. In fact, many vintage t-shirts are just modern day reproductions of the original design but “authentic vintage t-shirts” are those that are surviving garments from the period in which the t-shirt was produced. Of course, they are very rare and very expensive, especially certain designs that were incredibly popular the first time around or those that were only made in limited edition runs. However, you can have access to modern and authentic vintage t-shirts via a variety of stores both online and on the high street as and when you like today because they really are that popular and fashionable.
There are a few exceptions to the vintage t-shirts rules though. The main one relates to a small number of t-shirts that achieve cult status within ten or fifteen years of their initial release. Sometimes these shirts are classed as vintage when they are not yet qualified to fall into that category. One of those this applies to is the dark blue t-shirt with “The Strokes” logo across the chest. It of course relates to the band of the same name and was popular before Shia LeBeouf wore it during his role as Sam Witwicky in the box office smash hit Transformers. However, since it appeared in the film, the design has been in high demand all over the world and will undoubtedly achieve vintage as well as cult status. It has the latter now but cannot achieve the former for another ten years or so.
Vintage t-shirts are incredibly fashionable because they are timeless items of clothing that meant something in their era and thus remain relevant as a result of nostalgia. The appeal of vintage t-shirts goes above and beyond any other form of clothing because those shirts classed as vintage will never go out of fashion.
Given that people often turn their noses up at items that are old and are more than happy to throw away belongs that can no longer be considered to be useful given their age, it defies belief that vintage t-shirts are as popular as they are. However, they have a very real place in society today because they are culturally significant. Think about the amount of pivotal moments in history that have been commemorated with t-shirts and how many popular sayings have been set in historical stone because they have been printed on them. Although such logos and sayings are relevant to the era that spawned them but the nostalgia and vintage air that they adopt helps us to remember them too so we can learn from history.
Of course, vintage t-shirts are also popular because of their place in fashion history as well as cultural history. Fashion history is lengthy but specific shirts from moments in time remind us of great memories. Take the “Make Love Not War” t-shirts that were popular during the protests in Washington against the Vietnam War. How many people that were there and taking part will look back and reminisce about happy days when they hear the phrase or indeed see it on a t-shirt?
It is no wonder that vintage t-shirts are a key part of society’s conscious as much as that of fashion but there are some t-shirts that are very often more famous than others.
The “Make Love Not War” vintage t-shirts may be amongst the most memorable and most popular but there are numerous others that are on a par with it. In fact, some of the other acknowledged vintage shirts are more famous because they remind people of trends that went around the globe in their childhoods. The Vietnam War protests were very specific to America but the release and cult status of Star Wars, for example, impacted upon the entire world. The printed t-shirts that were released in the 1970s and 1980s to commemorate the films achieved cult status quickly and are now vintage. There are so many Star Wars vintage t-shirts designs around that it is hard to pinpoint the most popular, but all of them actually give many people an identity as well as something fashionable to wear. Their affinity with the film defines some of who they are. Vintage t-shirts can also do that. They remind people of events and things that helped to shape their lives, which is another reason as to why the nostalgia element is so important.
Other vintage t-shirts that really made an impact on culture and still do to this day include the skull and crossbones and the band t-shirts that were common in the 1980s. These vintage shirts most definitely remind people of their rocker days and are still popular today as a result of that. They are most definitely still cool. Vintage rock t-shirts are amongst the most popular and will probably remain that way for some time because the band was instrumental in developing the popularity of the t-shirt in general. However, if you are looking for vintage t-shirts then you might want to take a look at the logos and slogans of the 1970s and 1980s aside from the band ones. There are numerous ones out there and all of them make a statement. Choose the statement that best relates to you!
